Colea Owens MBA, BSN, RN  is an Expert in Nursing and Healthcare. She is a registered Nurse and the Founder and Owner of Black Girl Blue Scrubs, LLC where she helps minority nurses and healthcare professionals pursue their passions and impact the future of healthcare. Colea Is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and a professional educator, speaker and writer. Colea contributes health and wellness articles to young professionals regularly at 40 magazine. She is also a 2017-2018 Member of the Dallas Mayor Star Council and is currently nominated for the 2018 Dallas Millennials to Watch.

Education

Colea has a Bachelors of Science in Nursing and a MBA in Healthcare Administration. She has completed several continuing education courses in cardiac health, community health and leadership in nursing. She has a passion for Nursing Education and hopes to continue on to pursue a Doctorate in Nursing with a focus on Educational Leadership. 

Experience

Colea has worked in healthcare since 2011 and is familiar with both a culture of excellence, and the career development tools necessary for healthcare professionals to succeed at any stage of their careers. She has worked as a registered nurse for teaching hospitals including Cleveland Clinic and The Ohio State University. Colea has also worked in unit leadership roles and as a Nursing Professor for Chamberlain College of Nursing. She spent the majority of her nursing career as a travel nurse where she observed the culture of nursing and healthcare within various organizations. These roles have given her the experience and confidence necessary to impact nursing by becoming a Leader in Healthcare and to help others do the same.

Impact

While navigating her own nursing journey, Colea encountered nurses and aspiring nurses who were frustrated on how to go about entering and advancing in healthcare or who wanted help finding purpose within their careers. She felt compelled to address these issues and began thinking of a way to incorporate all the elements of her career experiences, into a tangible solution.

Colea built Black Girl Blue Scrubs for confident and motivated individuals who are passionate about healthcare, interested in exploring their options and dedicated to building successful careers while shaping the future of healthcare.

 

She encourages Nurses and other healthcare professionals to participate in the programs listed under "Workshops ad Programs" to help Minorities Impact Nursing worldwide.
